Two separate rallies were held on August 16 in Minsk. President Alyaksandr Lukashenka addressed supporters at a rally, after which tens of thousands of people gathered in the Belarusian capital for what organizers hoped would be the biggest outpouring yet of opposition to his disputed reelection, as pressure mounts for him to step down after 26 years in power, wrote RFERL.
