On Friday, conservative radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh honored his wife of ten years, Kathryn, by celebrating her devotion to their marriage on their wedding anniversary.
Kathryn (Rogers) is his fourth wife. Kathryn was a party planner who he met at a celebrity golf tournament that she ran and they dated for three years before they were married.
He talked about his marriage to Kathryn on Friday by saying, “I have to tell you, a lot of people get do- overs, a lot of people have false starts. I had my share. I got this one right, thank God. Got this one right.”
He continued, “These past 10 years…I cannot imagine these 10 years without Kathryn in them, especially now, after having gotten the cancer diagnosis. She’s just been a gigantic pillar of strength, and just does everything imaginable and possible to keep things as upbeat and positive as they can be. And I know it’s hard on her. It’s gotta be hard. It’s gotta be devastating on her, but I never see that.”
Rush has always been a softie when it comes to talking about his wife and his pets. He also has a soft spot for veterans, the military and law enforcement and supports the charities Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
And he loves his listeners. He’s always thanking them, never taking them for granted. He often talks about his love and respect for them and his appreciation for making his life so fulfilling.
Facing another round of chemo for the upcoming week, he told his listeners, “So I wanted to share all of this with you because I share as much of these kinds of things as I can. But it’s just really a blessing; I’m filled with so many. My entire life has been blessed, and that’s a very comforting way to look at it, to have no regrets. It’s not in my makeup to have regrets anyway, ’cause you can’t do anything about it. But literally to have no regrets, to be thankful for all of the people that I have met, all the people who are friends, have become friends.”
He continued, “All the opportunities that I’ve had, and all of the overwhelming support from across the spectrum that I have had, especially — but not limited to — the past six months. I only hope… I can only hope that for men and women both, that someday — maybe it’s happening now — in your life, that there is a Kathryn who is able to withstand anything that comes your way, to rise above it, to be bigger than it, and to keep you on as even a keel as possible.”
He also mentioned how he now understands a statement that Lou Gehrig made when he was diagnosed with a neuromuscular illness with no cure. Gehrig said, ”Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”
While it made no sense to him at the time, Rush now he understands that he was talking about the same love and support that has given him a great life and continues to sustain him. The blessings that come over the years to fill up our lives.
