What is the purpose of a church? In addition to spreading their interpretation of the Bible and how people can use it in their daily lives, churches are supposed to support their parishioners and communities.
I don’t think dipping into small business loans which takes funds away from the small businesses in their own communities sets any kind of good example and adheres to the principles they preach and are supposed to live by.
There are 17,000 Catholic Churches in the USA and 13,000 of them applied for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). A whopping 9,000 churches received the funding.

Supposedly the money the churches got are to keep people employed on the payroll. Shouldn’t they be using their tithes and offerings for that? And the rest of them can “work” for the church voluntarily while they get their unemployment money.
The legislative guidelines for the PPP allow the churches to apply for the loans but that doesn’t mean they should have done so. I guess they prefer to drain the PPE funds for their own benefit and if their fellow man or woman loses their job or their business, the church can give them food from their food pantry.
Churches are basically like non-profit organizations. They rely on donations from their “customers.” They don’t need to sell products to stay in business. They just need to have a effective church and a loyal customer base. If they do good work, their parishioners will continue to support them financially.
According to the Religion News Service, 65% of churches have seen a decline in giving since mid- March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Is this because the churches don’t have a loyal relationship with their members or do they not have a good marketing plan put in place and a way to creatively work within the current circumstances?
Taking advantage of the PPE isn’t just limited to the Catholics either. 573 Jewish organizations were also approved for the PPE money and got about $276 million, with only 219 synagogues who got over $50 million. Protestant churches also applied for the loans and 59% of them were approved.
This is just appalling to me.
Why are the churches even closed? We have a Constitution. Why haven’t the pastors stood up for their constitutional rights to freedom of religion and made their churches safe for people to visit? They should have been the first “protesters” during this pandemic.

The fact that so many churches continue to be closed seems like more of a voluntary choice to me.
Even in Michigan, where tyrant Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer changed language in her executive order to allow church staff and visitors to be at church without any penalties, many churches still haven’t opened.
Sure it takes a little work. A plan. But it’s not brain surgery.
You move the chairs around, you maintain social distancing, you have masks, you change some rules…
It seems ridiculous that pot stores and liquor stores and grocery stores are open and churches are closed.
These are the times when people need church more than ever.
Why should taxpayers be giving money to churches who choose to stay closed when the constitution and some governors allow them to be open?
And why aren’t the democrats complaining about these churches getting so much money?
Because churches take care of illegal aliens, that’s why. In fact, evangelical leaders from nine major organizations recently wrote Trump to release detained illegals to their care.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was a big cheerleader for churches to get COVID-19 stimulus funds.
He fought to make sure that religious institutions would be able to get the money. In an interview with The Tablet, Schumer said, “I don’t agree with the Catholic church on some issues. But I have great respect for the work churches do for the poor and vulnerable of our society.” Yes, we know who he is talking about – his illegal alien democrat voters.
I think the pastors of the churches who have taken the PPE money need to crack open a Bible and read 1 Corinthians 10:24.
It says, “let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.”
Give the money back.
