Ivanka Trump Targeted – Accused of Hypocrisy After Traveling to Home in New Jersey

First Daughter Ivanka Trump is the target of angry criticism after she and her family traveled more than 200 miles to their home in New Jersey.

Ivanka and her father advised the American public to stay home and avoid traveling in order to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, the state of New Jersey implemented guidelines that prohibit discretionary travel. Many are calling her a hypocrite for ignoring her own advice to travel hundreds of miles with her family to the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster from Washington DC for the first day of Passover, which was on April 8.

She was joined by her husband Jared Kushner, who is a senior advisor to the Trump Administration, and their three young children.

In a clip posted to social media on March 30, Ivanka said, “Those lucky enough to be in a position to stay at home, please, please do so. Each and every one of us plays a role in slowing the spread.”

Ivanka has been saying the Bedminster golf club is currently closed and therefore more socially distant than her mansion in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington.

It is unclear how she traveled. She and Kushner both receive Secret Service protection so she could have been driven there by agents, a road journey of just under four hours. She may also have flown either by commercial flight from Washington D.C. to Newark, or by government plane. Any journey would have therefore involved her Secret Service detail possibly breaking social distancing unnecessarily.

It is unclear when she traveled; she was last seen on April 7 at the White House, while her husband was seen leaving their Kalorama home on April 8 – the day Passover began – apparently to go to work. He was seen again in Washington D.C. on Tuesday 14, suggesting that he traveled back separately, again with Secret Service protection. [The Daily Mail [2]]

On March 16 the White House published guidelines set forth by the president in order to try and “flatten the curve” of the coronavirus. The guidelines instructed Americans to “avoid discretionary travel’ such as ‘shopping trips and social visits.”

Washington, DC issued a stay-at-home order for all residents unless they are performing essential activities.

The backlash against Ivanka was swift on social media.
