It’s a pretty sad world when you have a doctor who is trying to save people during a pandemic needing an armed security detail because he’s being threatened.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s most well known infectious disease doctor and regularly seen at President Trump’s daily press conferences as the face of “science”, will be receiving security protection after getting unspecified threats according to Politico [1].
Politico reports that HHS Secretary Alex Azar had the department do a threat assessment because of Fauci’s high profile. The Justice Department approved the request to have the U.S. Marshals deputize a group of agents in the office of the HHS IG to protect Fauci.
Politico, with no evidence, seems to be blaming Trump supporters for the threats because some of them have “targeted” Fauci online. Some Trump supporters don’t like Fauci contradicting the president while he’s standing next to him and many have voiced their concerns about Fauci’s “love affair” with Hillary Clinton.
Found in the WikiLeaks emails that were released, were two emails to Cheryl Mills from Fauci. Mills was White House Counsel for President Bill Clinton during his impeachment trial; Senior Adviser and Counsel for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign; and Counsel and Chief of Staff to Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State. Mills was also accused by a district court judge of lying under oath and committing perjury during the investigation into the use of Clinton’s server.
In the first email to Mills, Fauci talks about Hillary Clinton [2]. [2]..He says, “Wow! Very rarely does a speech bring me to tears, but this one did. Talk about telling it like it is. This was a bases-loaded home run. Please tell the Secretary that I love her more than ever, you guys too of course.”
A few months later, another letter from Fauci to Mills said, “Anyone who had any doubts about the Secretary’s stamina and capability following her illness had those doubts washed away by today’s performance before the Senate and the House. She faced extremely difficult circumstances at the Hearings and still hit it right out of the park. Please tell her that we all love her and are very proud to know her.”
These emails have definitely set off alarm bells with many Trump supporters. It’s a little odd to profess your “love” to someone you work with professionally. So it’s not surprising that many Trump supporters are doubting Fauci’s loyalty to President Trump. However, being vocal about a political issue doesn’t mean you are a threat to anyone. If that were true, about 99% of the liberals on Twitter should be investigated by the secret service as a threat to the president.
Fauci, a data-driven doctor, has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 through six presidential administrations. When interviewed by late-night Showtime hosts Desus Nice and the Kid Mero, Fauci was asked which of the presidents he had served with was the coolest. Fauci said, There’s not a chance in the world I’m gonna answer that one.”
Regardless of his detractors, Fauci also seems to have a following, including a doughnut shop making desserts with his face [3]on them. So he’s not only the face of science, he’s the face of sweet desserts too.
