It is no secret that President Trump’s approval rating among black voters is surprisingly high. Some polls show the ratings between the upper 20s to early 30s percentiles. Byron Donalds gets the drift.

Among other factors, that is why Donalds is seeking the GOP nomination for Florida’s 19th congressional district located in the Naples area.

The Brooklyn, New York native describes himself in a campaign video as a “strong, Trump-supporting, gun-owning, liberty-loving, pro-life, politically incorrect black man…The left wants you to think to be Republican means being privileged, racist, and out of touch. Well, I am not going to let them get away with this.”

Donalds told Fox News, “I have been a constitutionalist ever since I have been in politics the last 10 years and so for me, it’s important to go to Washington to fight for the Constitution and also begin the work of expanding the Republican Party, because we have to have new voices, new faces, people who are going to help expand our tent, stand for the president and not only win in 2020, but in the years beyond.”

Black and Latin voters poll more conservatively on social issues than white voters as a whole. This can be attributed to the strong role religion still plays in their lives. Combine that with a booming economy raising all boats which has produced the highest black and Latin employment stats on record, and you have a recipe for the president to increase his margins by 3-6 percent in some battleground states.

This could make the difference in locales like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Mexico while bringing minority conservatives like Byron Donalds to Congress in unprecedented numbers.

If the trend were to continue and a long-term realignment was to take place that moved a majority of black voters to the GOP, it could signal the congressional and national political death knell of the Democratic Party. Without the overwhelming support of the black community, Democrats will face crippling challenges in advancing their political agenda.
