First Lady Melania Trump found herself being booed on Tuesday when she took the stage to speak about the fight against opioid addiction at a Youth Summit in Baltimore, Maryland.

Daily Mail reported that as soon as Melania stepped onstage, she was loudly booed by middle and high school students for about a minute. The students then talked loudly over her while she tried to speak to them before booing her again at the conclusion of her remarks.

Melania’s husband President Donald Trump has been highly critical of Baltimore, going so far as to call the city a “rat and rodent infested mess.” Back in July, he also took to Twitter to describe Baltimore as a place where “no human being would want to live.”

Melania had come to Baltimore to speak at the B’MORE Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness, which was sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency. Though over 2,500 middle and high school students were scheduled to attend the event, the stadium ended up only being half full.

Despite jeers from the crowd, Melania did not deviate from her speech, which she read out from a teleprompter.

“We are here today to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic in our country and to educate young lives on how to live a drug-free life,” Melania said. “Addiction and drug abuse are universal issues– they do not discriminate based on income, age, race or where you live. I’m in this fight with you and I’m fighting for you.”

“I hope that the knowledge you gain here will help you tackle the tough decisions you may be faced with, so that you can lead a healthy and drug-free life,” Melania told the attendees at the event. “Get involved and be a part of the solution. Talk to your family and friends about what you have learned and help them understand how they too can be part of this powerful movement.”

Melania wished the students a Happy Thanksgiving as she left the stage, and boos could audibly heard once again as she made her exit.
